I have what i feel is a fairly simple scene
when I try to render it just goes to this point and stops. Im using the default settings,
ive been experiencing this with alot of my models nowadays anyone have any insight?
Im using the latest release 1.49 on sketchup 8
windows 7 64 bit 4 gigs of ram
Re: Slow render times help
The only thing I see that may be an issue, is the white color you’re using. Pure white can slow things down quite a bit. If it’s an off-white color, then I don’t really see anything in the image that seems too complex.
Re: Slow render times help
i checked the override material box and it rendered in seconds. does that mean my problem is with my textures?
Re: Slow render times help
Do you have transparency on the material? The transparency slow down the render drastically.
Re: Slow render times help
or displacement on the water…
Re: Slow render times help
the water is transparent also the fabric is slightly transparent, i havent used any displacement
Re: Slow render times help
that doesn’t answer my question about white materials. If you’re using 100% white for any of your materials, your render is going to be slower than a snail crawling uphill backwards in a snow storm.
Re: Slow render times help
yes im using 100% white I had kno idea this would be an issue. so what do i do just edit the whit material to be a little off-white?
Re: Slow render times help
just make the color a little tiny bit darker than 100% white. You can adjust it in the SketchUp material editor, or the V-Ray material editor, either is fine.
Re: Slow render times help
I made the change still having the problem, any other suggestions?
Re: Slow render times help
100% color is = 255, I always use between 230 and 245.
Just as a test. Go to the transparent materials and change the transparent option to 100% black. Make a render to see if you have any difference. When I said transparent material, I’m not talking about material with refraction layer. I’m talking to material that have transparency on the diffuse layer.
Re: Slow render times help
That worked fernando thank you. however so what do i do if i want something slighty transparent without completely stalling my render?

I found no workaround yet. Sorry
Re: Slow render times help
Now Im a little confused because im sure in previous versions this wasnt an issue. so is this a new problem?

I have this issue even in V-Ray for Rhino. I think is an old issue, at least in Rhino. Not sure if was an old issue in Sketchup.
Re: Slow render times help
Couldn’t you just use a 2 sided material?

The two sided material give you translucency and not transparency. If you add transparency to one of the two sided material sub-material, you will have the same issue.
