Can anyone tell me how to smooth out the facets in this arch? I have already tried using the “soften/smooth edges” command in sketchup. Also, does anyone know how to make the tree in the background transparent. I cannot figure out how to make an alpha map image transparent.
Thanks,
Matt
Re: smooth facets in arch
You have to use more segments when you create the arc. When you create an arc in SU you can afterwards select it and in the Entity window specify the number of segments. Note that this only works as long as it’s truely an arc. When you extrude it or do anything else to it you can no longer change the number of segments.
That tree looks transparent to me…
Re: smooth facets in arch
Thank you. That was extremely helpful. As for the tree, I’m not sure how to explain my question clearly. In this image, I’m able to render the tree with the alpha map and get the tree profile I want. But I want to make the entire tree more transparent. I want to fade it so it doesn’t look so sharp. When I adjust the transparency in the sketchup material editor, it has no effect. I hope my question is clearer.
Thanks,
Matt
Re: smooth facets in arch
That’s because when you have applied a bitmap for the alpha channel the colour slot for transparency doesn’t work any more. The bitmap overrides it.
What you have to do is edit the alpha channel it self. Black is fully visible and white is fully transparent. So you need to turn the black into a shade of grey. RGB 128,128,128 would result in 50% transparency.
