Snow in the mirror?

Hi guys,

I was working on ths scene today and I’m getting some weird noise in the mirror. Also it looks as if the LC is the only GI in the mirror as well, look at the blotches. I’m using IR, LC and Adaptive QMC AA.
I’ve posted my settings as well. Max8 Vray 1.47.03, DR with 7 nodes (6 Dual Xeon 2.8’s and one X2 4400) Any ideas?

Thanks,
Z

looks like not enough samples for lc in the mirror…i could be wrong though. Try settings samples for 0.01 and prefilter to 30 and filter type fixed.

any glossy refraction on the windows?

ive seen this a while back, cant remember what it was though

Also try without the ‘use LC for glossy rays’ option.

And to make sure, render that view directly, maybe the problem is really there and not only when viewed trough the mirror?

No glossy refractions in the glass, but there was something weird with the glass… I had to exclude it from the vray sphere light acting as the sun, otherwise the light would not come through. I’ve done this dozens of times before in viz05 without having to exclude the glass, but this is my first interior with Max8, so maybe there is setting I am missing somewhere.

Anyway, I have rendered the other view and there is no noise and I’ve rendered the mirror looking from the other side of the room and the problem wasn’t there.

I’ll try morbid and flipsides’ suggestions tomorrow, I’ll also post the materials for the mirror and the glass, but they are pretty straight forward vray materials.

Thanks for everyone’s help.
