I’ve just been sat in my back garden having a bit of a lunch break, with my other half. Suddenly this Kestrel landed about 8 feet away from us, I could’nt beleive it, and just stared at it in awe. Then the totty comes out with " Oooo look a pigeon" :shock: :?
at which point the Kestrel flew off and i stood up and walked away completely stunned by what she had just said.
My question is :?: has anybody else on here, or that you know, ever, ever, ever confused a Kestrel with a pigeon, or am i the only person that lumbered with somebody who’s slightly confused in the head :lol:
im a bad judge on this one since i havent the foggiest idea what a kestral looks like. i did have to read some awful book called a kestral for a knave or something like that when i was young but i cant remember what it was about. Anyhow, the point is we dont have them here.
LOL, Had a similar thing happen to me a couple of years ago,had a text message from the missus saying there’s an Eagle in the garden!!! It went on to say “its is cos its got talons” :shock:
turns out this was a Kestrel…
Eagle :lol: fantastic, thats even better, afterwards she said “i knew it was one of them that you said” and “i thought it was a bit strange for a pigeon” marvelous, i hav’nt laughed at her so much for ages
Da elf, that book’s about young yorkshire lad and his Kestrel, and is set about 6 mile away from where i live.
that was to be my next question. im guessing its a hawk or something related to an eagle since its got tallons meaning a bird of prey large enough for someone to call it an eagle.
For most American who don’t know, a Kestrel is what most americans would call a Falcon. Eagle/Falcon… I can see people getting that confused… even if one is a lot smaller. Baby Eagle?
My cousin is a big ornithologist. What pisses him off is in movies, (US movies obvioulsy) they show a shot of a Bald Eagle flying, and the cry they use is of the red tale hawk. Bald eagles have a pretty nasty cry.
well. no eagles, falcons, hawks, or anything like that here…opps wait. we have something called a fishing hawk (Osprey) down here but im not sure if its realy part of the hawk family or if its just privilidged to have that name. like how we go fishing for dolphin fish which isnt related or to be mistaken for dolphins but is called mahi mahi in other places.
I know so many people get the dolphin thing confused. Tell people you caught a dolphin and they get up in arms. Its also called a dorado or a mahi mahi.
Oh Chris I was hoping you were using a fly line for that. Wheres your #10 12’ 4 piece orvis?
Hook a fish like that on an light fly rig. Well I have never done it but I imagine these things often.
