SP4 thanks

Great work, thanks

Denoising separate render elements one by one and showing the denoised result is not possible in 3.40.01. It’s planned for a future release.

Oh, ok. So if I understand this correctly, it will still denoise the different elements at the end, right? Just not as it renders. Thanks.

It will use those elements for better denoising and will compose the result into the denoised RGB pass internally. For now it’s not possible to see the actual denoised elements. You can take a look at this thread for more info - http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthread.php?87178-Denoiser-testers-wanted

Ah that makes it clear then. Well, count me in for any testing you need. I know some may not use these elements, but they are an integral part of my workflow.

Thanks for the great service pack!
This point alone was the reason for me to install it instantly. No changes to the lights in RT are blazing fast!

(*) V-Ray RT: Moving a light during ActiveShade causes two light re-exports;

Short question regarding the procedural textures in the bump slots for RT: Right now there is only the noise texture supported, right? Are the other ones coming in the next releases? (BerconNoise, Cellular, Smoke, Speckle etc.)

+ Mix and Mask, sorry for missing them in the change log. We are working on the others, but I don’t think we can promise anything

Thank you Vlado and team :)!!!

So when is Vray 4.0 coming 8)

It’s still many months (and at least 2-3 service packs) away; I will talk at EUE a bit more about our plans.

Best regards,
Vlado

Yes I’ ve heard that, too bad I can’t be there, but we’ll get a recap of some sorts I hope?

Yes, I hope so too.

Best regards,
Vlado

Public recording isn’t allowed, but I’ll try and beg Joep for at least an audio recording for later summation, if not transcript…

Great! Thanks guys. Exciting

Wow, that is actually very generous of you to let V-Ray 3.x have such a long lifetime. Bravo! :sunglasses:

Thank you Lele!

nice job guys, love the denoiser, does help a lot!

I would love to see some examples if you have time to post

Best regards,
Vlado

So here is a shot I did some years ago for the Costco company. I have always called it the “poster child for noise”, what with all the space for light to bounce all around the inside of the boxes against and through glossy reflective, glossy refractive, and semi-transparent multi-layered shampoo bottles. The noise in the shot is more than obvious and pretty much everywhere.

Rendering normally I would have to crank everything up pretty high to resolve the noise and on my current machine (Intel 5960x) the final render took around 27 minutes. This shot as you can see, using V-Ray defaults, took a paltry 3:48.

So now here is the same shot - Denoised!

Looks pretty dang good, and what - at 1/7 of the rendering time? Wow.

Sure, if you zoom in there are artifacts, so for a final I would crank sampling up a bit, but the potential here for saving a whole lot of time is obvious. Heck, by the time you do all your (very fast!) itinerant drafts you’ll have the perfect settings down and away you go for the deliverable. Just fantastic stuff…

Hey, it took me 3 minutes to render, including Denoiser time, a job at 2,000 HDTV. I know you want to see samples, but this one I can’t put on the forum. But needless to say, it denoised nicely!
