splotchy small area of light showing up in image

I’m getting splotchy light areas on some of my surfaces in the rendering.
Does anybody know what this is about?
It happens on the serufces that have some reflection like a wet concrete walkway or on metal bldg panels. if I could figure out how to upload the image it would help illustate the issue.

can anybody help?

Perhaps some screenshots and/or render settings would help us better help you. It could be that you need more samples, or perhaps your blur GI setting is too low… Hard to tell without more info.

here are the settings:

vray image sampler: adaptive qmc min =1 max =100 mitchell-netravali
indirect lighting: reflective checked, primary bounce set to irradiance map, seconday to quasi monte carlo
irradiance map: low, HSph subdiviion set to 20
caustics: off
environment: overide max and usin a hdri material
vray QMC: noise threshold set to 0.001
color mapping: exponentail with a dark mul of 3 and a bright of 1.5
clamp output unchecked and afect backround checked

Can’t get you the image yet because I’m too green to figure out how to get it to you.

without seeing an image it could be reflected caustics (looks like you have it checked)
It could be a raytraced/architectural material.

It would be best to post up an image or a portion of the image for us to check.

Also if you are using a Vray light to illuminate your scene, you might want to toggle the setting to make the light invisible.

I tried to change the HSph subdv’s from 20 to 50 and that did not do it. I’m doing a rendering with the vray light hidden and I’ll let you know how it goes.

try turning off the hdri in your environment

upload your image to imageshack.us then post the link for it here. So we know what your talking about

the above is with the HDRI environement on

the latter is with the HDRI off.

In the latter the circles on the foreground wet concrete are not there.
How I get rid of those things without turning off the HD environement?

Maybe some sort of odd error in the HDR? have you tried a different one just to test.

It’s the only one I have. I ordered some on a CD. do know of a site where I can get some free HDR’s?

I notice that when I bump up irradiance map from low to medium the circles become smaller and alomst go away. they show up in other palces smaller but just as intense

lots of links to free HDRI maps

It could be something with your IR settings. But your just using the LOW preset?
Are there any errors in the vray log?

yes there is a warning but I believe its related to the camera correction I gave to the camera.

the warning is:

camera matrix is not orthonormal and max compatible
standard materials and lights may shade incorrectly

could that be it. I’ll try it without the camera 2 point correction.

the image without the camera correction is rendering. I’ll have a link for it in a little while. thaks for your help.

if it is the camera correction is there a fix.

thanks for the HDRI links. I feel like an idiot becuase I just paid for some.

do you know where I can find 3d models of cars and low ploy 3d people that have vray materials?

It will most likely be that… untick max-compatible shadecontext in the Vray:System rollout if you want to use camera correction.

Often the paid ones will be better and alot bigger than the free ones.. so no need to feel like an idiot

Free ones… hmmmm not so sure.. have a look around www.evermotion.org in the free section.. they usually have a loot of stuff there which might be what your after.

great site. ANy others that you know of that offer vray materials in the models?

I did a rendering now without the camera correction and it looks clean.
is there a setting I could use in that would allow me to use the camera correction without getting the warnings and splotches?

Not that i can remember off hand… most of the really good ones you need to buy.

See my post 2 up, i told you how to fix it

that did the trick. more splotchy circles with the shade context unchecked.

than ks for yourhelp.

huh… so there was more with it unticked?
