Spotlight with hard shadows

Hello. Is it possible to make a proper spotlight with a vray rect light (disc) with hard shadows like the maya spotlight?

The problem is that I have to set the directional param to almost 1 to achieve hard shadows, but that also make the light to a straight line rather than a cone.

It’s possible to use maya spotlight instead, but then I don’t have all the other vray llight features.

Maybe texture the VRayLight with a Vray Softbox tex?

EDIT: Ah, you want hard shadows, too… Gimme a min.

I dont think so…would be a nice to have for Christmas!

Yes, I basically want the look of the Maya spotlight, but with all the vray features.

You can make the light smaller (U/V size 0.1) and appropriately brighter; this way, shadows will get sharper. I presume you can make it Maya Spotlight -sharp if you make the light small enough (Maya lights are points), however, I do not recommend it, since such lights may introduce artifacts.

This is set be 0.1 with an intensity of 500.000.
It doesn’t change how hard the light is.

Pardon, I was thinking that you wanted sharp shadows on the objects. Not sure if you can have a sharp V-Ray light similar to the Maya spotlights. By the way, you can add V-Ray attributes to the Maya Spotlights. Is there a particular setting you need that’s not there?

Alright, can you add to the wishlist so it will be possible to make a similar spotlight like the Maya one.
Two issues with using maya is preventing me from using it. It’s a point and not visible and adding vray light attributes to it does not give the option of atmospheric contribution.
