Hi Folks
I haven’t posted for a while so here is a low budget (credit crunch!) beauty salon for a client.
This is a shop unit, so natural light is coming from behind the camera, supplemented with some rectangular lights illuminating different areas (counter etc.) All done in SR1 (renders in 5 mins) with no PS.
I’m having trouble getting a texture on the back of the leaves on the plant, so any help there would be very much appreciated - and of course C & C very welcome.
I could transfer the texture to the back of each leaf, but they are made up of many facets, so it would take a while. I was hoping I could just fiddle (a techinical rendering term!) with the top surface texture to get it to show on the back - maybe I’m just being lazy!
Man this component especific, always makes trouble with textures. Always, i dont know its a problem with the component composition, the way he as made, you have to remake al textures to make it work, but if you use the 1.0 version, to make it work, dont link any vray material to him and the textures will look right.
As I while away the hours, retexturing a f****** bamboo plant . . . .
Yes, I think it is just a reverse faces problem.
In SU I reduced the opacity of the leaf material to 99% and immediately, in SU, the reverse face had the leaf texture visible. But this didn’t happen when I rendered it.
I have found that by re-texturing (!!!) the leaves, it then renders on the back face ok. What else would you do with your time on a Saturday! (leaf 52, leaf 53, leaf . . . .)
woooooooooooow ??? im only saying that you need to select all leves by select all same material explode make a group then apply a material.. thats it… is it really for me ? are you angry? if i said something wrong? my apologies…
After a good nights sleep, (dreaming of leaves!), and reflecting on the advice from Santos, I thought I would give the quick and dirty method one more go - and it worked.
So this is it-
- right click on leaf and select ‘select all by material’
- select ‘entity’ (will show lots of entities - i.e. leaf facets)
- entity drop down box will show material applied to each side of the entity
- replace the ‘default’ material which will be on the backside with your preference - in my case ‘leaf1’
DONE
I guess I need to go back to Sketchup school :-[ :-[ :-[
Thanks for the advise everyone - I can now get back to a normal life!!
And that transferred the texture to the backside with the correct texture co-ordinates?
Er.. yes . . broadly speaking. Certainly good enough for the back of a leaf, and the plant loogs good now.
The long way (the very, very long way) which I was doing yesterday was re-positioning the texture and projecting it on each leaf - but I decided that life was too short to continue!
The solution, I think, if we use vegetation consisting of a few polygons (especially if the leaves are composed of complex or more faces) is as follows:
1. I select the leaves, as you rightly say, attack a map with a material that is GHOST achieved simply by SketchUp completely transparent 0%
2. create a component of all leaves
3. copy, built the existing component.
4. edit selection reverse the faces
At this point the geometry doubles but mapping the coordinates are preserved …
would be wonderful if, exploding the two components, are based maintaining the faces with the material (the principal), but so is not
