Hi,
I found several threads on this topic on the forums, some as far back as 2021, but there doesn’t appear to have been any movement to resolve the issue.
Unsigned executables, never before seen in organisations or globally (based on their file hash) have been problematic for years and any Microsoft Defender customer has likely felt the impact of dealing with Enscape’s approach and the Attack Surface Reduction rule, ‘Block executable files from running unless they meet a prevalence, age, or trusted list criterion’
We’re an enterprise customer of yours and increasingly feel as though we’ll need to move away from the product if a standalone viewer or executables cannot begin to be signed. There’s too much overhead to deal with the product and balance the security of the business.
Are you able to offer an update on this position please?
Thanks
Hi @dshuttleworth , and thanks a lot for bringing this topic up again.
We’re aware of the challenges around unsigned .exe files and know it’s an important topic for many users.
While we don’t have a signed .exe option right now, we’ve recently introduced 3D Streaming (click for more info) as a potential alternative and are planning to add more options (ideally early next year) though I cannot promise when exactly those will be implemented.
Once there are any additional updates in the future, I’ll also let you know accordingly.
Thanks for the update.
Are you able to share technical information regarding the security of data offered by 3D streaming and guidance on where this data sits geographically?
With regard to geographic location, the scene data utilized for 3D streaming is stored in the United States within our cloud storage infrastructure.
Ok, thanks, is there a European server we could use ?
How long are uploaded files held on the infrastructure?
@dshuttleworth At this point, the scene data used for 3D streaming is stored at rest in the United States on our cloud storage. We currently do not offer a European server option.
As for retention, you have the control over how long the files are stored on our servers. If you want to remove any files, you can do that by deleting the files from Chaos Cloud. Find the file you want to delete and initially move it to the Trash by selecting that option in the menu.
Anything you place in the Trash will automatically be deleted forever after 2 months. However you can also delete the files immediately by navigating to the Trash:
