Another quick house exteriors. I can do one of these a day. They have become my bread and butter.
Out of curiosity, do you model the siding or is it displacement. It kind of looks like the picket fence is facing backwards?
The siding is displacement. Yes, the fence is backward, thanks! I missed that.
Do you work with your own presets to speed things up? Like ready setup railclone and forest pack objects?
Actually, the fence wasn’t backward. It’s a Railclone fence and it’s the same on both sides. I usually use Railclone and Forest PAck Pro presets and most of the time, I do the same color grading in Post Production, with little variances.
very nice rendering, mind to share your render time and render size? Do you use brute force + light cache for this render?
Thank you! Yes, BF and LC and all defaults. It took about 30 minutes to render at 4K.
It’s fast, mind to share your setting?
Just the defaults.
30mins fast as
Great render but the scale of the car looks a little off to me, if i was being picky ![]()
Very much un-keen about those oddly coloured pathway and porch pavers - but the customer is always, um…wrong unless they can demonstrably prove otherwise ![]()
That aside, if you don’t mind me saying, it looks a little like there is no back to the house, as we can see trees through all of the windows. Unless it’s an illusion caused by reflection of course.
Yes, he picked the brick. No, there is a back, full of windows.
how about something in the windows - curtains/sheers/blinds? always so dark, even disturbing a bit. would lighten up your houses for sure.
Always like your work Bobby, I particularly like the subtle DoF in this one.
Care to share which particular HDRI you use ?
And as an illustrator, can you say more about your approach regarding the lovely shadows you see across your image ? Here in the UK, our bread and butter type properties certainly don’t sit in such open grounds, and it’d be fakery (in the UK) to have such lovely shadows as yours cutting across lawns and on the facade of the house, there simply aren’t nice big trees close enough to make that happen.
What tips could you give in those circumstances ? (I don’t do many houses, but this is the situation in the UK and it trips me up often).
Thanks.
Thank you! Well, I always try to get shadows on my foreground, so I turn everything off except for my ground plane and a tree. I move the tree around in plan while I have the camera view in IPR mode. I move things around until I get some nice shadows. On the house, the same thing. I try to get 2/3rds in lights and 1/3rd in shadow. I also use a vraylightselect for the sun and layer that on in post-production. For the HDRI, I get all mine from https://hdri-locations.com/
I agree, however, every single time I place curtains or blinds I am asked to removed them, so I stopped trying. Usually, my window frames are not so dark, so people like the contrast. These frames are dark, so it’s different, which is why I boosted the reflection in post-production.
I think it looks very good. Nice lighting and greenery. Well done.
I prefer the second front on image. very nice background, plants and other setup looks spot on. I would agree with some comments on the windows - maybe it could benefit from a reflection plane behind the camera to pick up some hint of what is there but maybe more grass hills and sky visible for the contrast. Personally I also think the red brick may be a touch saturated but these are probably more personal choices. how are you modelling these jobs up and rendering within a day? that’s insane to me!
