We have been using Picasa in our office for a good while now to browse all our textures on our network ‘texture’ drive. We have many thousands of them! The problem is that it is a bit flakey - it doesn’t seem to scan certain folders or simply scans when it feels like it. You can’t seem to pick folders and say “scan this folder and create thumbnails now!”.
What solutions are people using out there?
(Adobe Bridge is rubbish and slow!)
i am using ACDSee Pro, works good enough for me. there is a demo version available, just try it.

Just using Adobe Bridge… Think it’s pretty memory hungry but I like the way it works. You can rate and tag images etc. Possibly more useful for photo-montage libraries.
in Picasa you can choose network folders if you have setup a network share.
then in picasa goto tools>folder options
then pick the eye for the network shares!
But you have to map then in explorer. usualy it’s recommended to map all the drivers in your network the same way. this way for example 3dsmax can always find maps, textures and such. no matter on what station you are at.
To map a network drive open up explorer and choose Tools>map network drive
click the box so that windows remembers it.

This is what we do, but Picassa is a bit odd in that even when watch folders are there, it just will not scan them. Perculiar.
I second the vote for Adobe Bridge. But the one that comes with CS3, which is excellent. The one from CS2 wasn’t so good.
