texture not accurate

having difficulty creating an accurate texture. I have included the model as well as screenshot of a rendering from another program (Twilight Render) that gave a more acceptable color rendition of the texture and my settings.

Please advise

The lighting and exposure are entirely different between those 2 images also - I’d try and start with that first as it will be easier to see the effect it will have on your materials. The Enscape one is underexposed compare to the other - so bump it up so the white parts look a little closer in overall lightness

The material you’ve asked is for a slightly alien partially metallic lacquer coated material that is perfectly shiny.

Change the material to generic

Turn metalness to 0. Generally materials are metal or not

Adjust the roughness until it looks as shiny as it needs to be
Rather than using a photo of granite , you could also just make a solid colour and approximate the colour and surface you are after. You can then match the granite image to that colour in photoshop.

thanks Adam. I have since our last conversation changed the pink texture to an Enscape texture (Granite 1) which is a grey granite and edited the color to try to look like the photo of the actual mausoleum that I am using for the colors I am trying to achieve, as well as the shininess, which I am having trouble with. For some reason I could not upload the actual Sketchup model I am using.

I changed the brightness of the sky and some other things but still can’t get the pink texture shiny like the photo.

looks like I found a solution. Don’t know if it’s the right way to do it, but obtained a shiny surface by lowering the brightness to 1.

OK, so at the moment you’ve got a normal map on it, this gives it some lumpy surface texture . 0 is perfectly flat and -10 will be incredibly dimpled and lumpy - this in turn diffuses the light and reduces the reflections and glossiness.

Delete the roughness map to start with then

I would turn normal to 0 - and the roughness to 0 , which will give you a mirror like sheen

If you need the lumpyness back, increase the normal value by very small amounts until you reach the desired level - you may need to be very close to the surface to see the effect

in this case you have a roughness map that defines that some parts of the surface as rougher than others - if you black it darker - then you are making the value 0 - which makes it 0 rough. If it is that black, you may as well remove it.

Your -10 value on the normal map won’t be helping - that’s an abnormally high amount.

It certainly looks closer to what you want though

now I can’t control location of the sun in enscape.

tried contr/u. & contr. i. no luck, also contr/r TO RESET SUN, NO LUCK

how do I remove it?

If you’ve got a window open in enscape it might not let you change the sun.

You can control it directly from inside sketchup if you have the camera sync on - just use the shadow settings.

I had a quick go at making a similar scene - one other thing with yours is that you look to have increase the saturation a lot - I’d perhaps consider resetting that. It will look a little more natural also make choosing appropriate materials easier.

I tried closing the help window, no help (and no pun intended), Couldn’t make changes in the sun placement. Made changes in the SU model to the sun placement, restarted Enscape, still no change in the use placement. See attachment. Also, I noticed the score lines in your model appear much cleaner than mine. What is your secret?

when you render the image proper it will calculate the shadows in the gaps a little better - but also I turned the outlines to 1% in the Enscape visual settings to draw some extra lines over the top.

thanks for the tip. What about the problem I’m still having with the sun placement? Notice the difference in the shadows of the SU model and the ENSCAPE model. What do you mean by “render proper”?

It looks like you using an HDRI skybox - there is a setting that locks the sun position to the brightest point in the image. That’s the only situation when I cannot override it.

If not, Maybe take a look at some help docs or drop support a message.

When I say render “proper”, I mean when press the “Screenshot” button in the toolbar inside of enscape - That is when the final image is rendered - it will be higher quality than the preview you see inside of enscape window.

I’ll try that. Is that better quality than the AI enhanced?

Adam,

You have been a terrific help! Can you offer some articles/reading material on this? I’m ready to school myself so I won’t have to ask you so many questions.

FYI, I’m using a Mac.

thanks, again!
