When using the vraystereo helper you can directly preview the 3D in the VFB using these options. The stereo helper enforces creation of a side by side stereo image and the VFB is able to combine it into different representations.
LUTs (Look Up Tables) are used to store color transformations.

Thank you , so a pair of 3D specticals are required , ie the ones from the cinema.or different.
Colour transformation…as in the colour in the image is kept, but i thought a 16 bit or 32 bit exr keeps all the colour info?
So is the difference , and would you use this in everyday arc viz business.
it worked great, but how do you save the combined side by sides as one?
I know … am I being thick or has this been released with no release notes… Dosen’t make sense to spends months on features and then not to explain them.
Some people know all about them, so there must be something somewhere to explain or they are all Beta testers?
Can somebody go through the process please of using this feature.
Thank you
phil
I can explain the LUT one for you (well, kinda!)
A lut is a look up table that you can apply to your renders (as a preview tool, just like the exposure and curves) so that the colours you are seeing on your monitor match the colours that will be displayed on whatever output source you are using. Its part of the colour management in many (all??) films. Any compositors that have done film work will be all too aware of LUTs.
I would have loved this feature 6 months ago on a film I was working on. We ended up having to render the frames, then load them into nuke where we applied the LUT. Having it in vray would just mean being able to get the colours/levels right in vray quicker without going backwards and forwards between max and nuke
LUTs are usually created per job/per machine so everyone is looking at the same colour space.
I would say if you dont know what they are you dont need them!
For the stereo buttons you would need the corresponding coloured glasses to see the stereo effect…like these:

Im not sure how you render the side by side image into the vray VFB though.
Look up “stereo anaglyph” for more info.
Jordan thank you .
I will look it up.
Show reel looks good, well done, some very nice work.

Here’s a quick run-down:
- Add the stereo helper to your scene
- Adjust the eye distance as wanted/needed
- Turn on “Adjust resolution” (This will automatically double the width of the rendering so you dont loose resolution)
- Hit Render
- You get a side by side view of your scene with the camera slightly moved
- Turn on the corresponding Preview button in the VRay VFB and you will be able to preview it in anaglyph mode using the glasses shown above

Thorsten
Same question here ![]()
Make sure you have the Stereo plugin helper installed, the stereo helper in your scene and check the ‘Adjust Resolution’. Render using the Vray Frame buffer, and you’ll have 2 images side-by-side, you can press the red/cyan button to see it in anaglyph, but it will save as side-by-side images if you don’t have this on.
It also saves as side by side if you have this button pressed. It’s only a lut change, so it won’t save (like the srgb button).
Does it save as an anaglyph image with you?
I do press the press the red/cyan button to see it in anaglyph, but it saves the side-by-side only.
The vfb just save side by side!!!
Vlado could you fix it please?
Cheers.

what setting did myou use between eyes in mm ?
This is by design; I specifically did not want the image to be saved as anaglyph.
Best regards,
Vlado
What does that mean..?.." this is by design"
Can it be used to save stereo images or not, I am little confused ?
If it is can you explain please, looks like a good feature that is not being implimented.
Thanks Vlado
That means it was designed that way…lol
[Sorry to be sarcastic but it’s friday afternoon & I just couldn’t resist]
There must be obvious reasons for it to be designed that way…I am guessing that it is so you can further tweak/combine the images in post
It would be nice to save the VFB, otherwise I don’t see the point other than getting a preview of that it could look like.
Hi Vlado,
are you joking??!! Into the VFb you can have a ready to use anaglyph image, and you can’t save it??!! I cannot understand the point. I don’t want use pdp player or toxic or others compositing programs to have something that already have on VFB.
I just want save my anaglyph, get the glasses to my client and that’s it.
If you like, it would be nice if you explain the reason behind this decision.
Thanks.

It is a preview mode only; like the sRGB button or the LUT. Normally you would want to do post-processing on the image in photoshop or whatever, or convert it to anaglyph using a more advanced algorithm (V-Ray uses a very simple one, which is not the best), and so on. When you have the two side-by-side images, this is very easy to do. Once you bake the anaglyph mode, none of this is possible.

Vlado
