Third environment override option

I often use the separate reflection and refraction environment overrides in the Vray:Environment rollout. However, it would be useful to have a third option where you could have another refraction slot, as seen in a reflection. In other words, I want to see one environment refracted when directly looking at the object (as visible through camera), but see another environment when that same refractive object shows up in a reflection.

This happens frequently when say rendering a glass balcony with glass doors behind it. I want the balcony to reflect an HDR map, which is set to the reflection override. And I want to see the Vray Sky where one sees through the balcony to the Vray Sky, so I have the refractive override set to Vray sky. However, when I see a reflection of the glass balcony in the glass behind, I see the HDR map in the reflection of the glass door, except where the glass balcony is, where I see the Vray Sky. Obviously this is not desirable.

If unclear, I can post an example later.

You can override the environment locally for the materials you are interested in, and control the override priorities using the “Environment priority” option in VRayMtl.

Ah, very nice. I’ve never used (or noticed) the Env. priority before. How do the values affect the priority? I just read about it on the spot3d manual, but it doesn’t really say.
