oooo sounds exciting!
not sure about the MDT upgrade but the viz to max will be sweet!
woohoo…Max8 will go fine for you.. dont forget to update to sp3 (for max) as well.
dont forget to get the 3dsMax8_RealDWG_2007.msp it will help with bringing things from MDT, ADT and ACAD
Thanks guys.
jacksc02, do you know how “3dsMax8_RealDWG_2007.msp” compares to the Mechanical Desktop Object Enabler that we currently use?
Cheers!

i think it is the new object enabler (dont quote me on that though)
Hi Guys,
I’ve kind of got a (big) problem here… Max 8 imports the DWGs from both MDT2005 and MDT2007, except the models all import as Editable Splines and not Editable Mesh’.
Heeeelp!
Our Autodesk support guys are all away on a conference in New Zealand at the moment and we have to complete this upgrade in order for a new drafting member to start on Monday next week ![]()
Thanks guys.

dj studd- can you send me a MDT file? abd i will have a look for you

click on my email button above…
Oh, too easy ![]()
dont worry easily missed…
Thanks Chris,
That should be in your inbox shortly.
In the mean time, I wonder… would our Acad 2007 license allow us to install a “copy” of Acad 2005 until such time that we can resolve the problem?
It’s not like Autodesk are poor, they just received a $24,000 lump sum from us…

you can install 2005 and just run it as a trial version for 30 days.
Good point!
30 day trial version it is

Just for other people’s information.
Autodesk’s development team are currently chasing up this problem.
I can successfully import our MDT2005 models into 3dsmax7 with the MDT2006 object enabler. As such, the issue appears to be with the new “RealDWG2007” for 3dsmax8.
RealDWG doesn’t seem to like our Parametric models.
In the mean time, $24,000 of software sits there waiting…
Autodesk will be releasing an updated object enabler within the next few weeks to fix the issue that we’re having re. importing MDT models into Max8. Fantastic!
-- DJ
good to know, how many more bugs will they introduce!
I can’t believe it… they’ve actually followed through with their promise!

Too bad that wasn’t the only thing they broke in Max 8.
RealDWG 2007 doesn’t read the UCS (User Defined Coordinate system) from any xrefs in the dwgs. urg.
By the time I get a fix they’ll have brought out Max 9, with a whole new can of problems… err, worms…
