Tonemapper/Colorspace stuff

I’ve been analyzing different render engines to see how they tackle tonemapping. One engine that stands out, and this has become the new vray meme, is fstorm.

My test scene has been 14 100x100cm planes that range from 1 light intensity to 14 (The range Corona currently support in log, ACESlog support please :frowning: ). I’ve been testing white, red, green, blue.

I noticed that if you leave all the fstorm tonemapper settings at 0, it will still affect how light intensity behaves.

After reading a bunch of articles about ACES and XYZ space, I noticed that this behavior happens to the linear render when you go into XYZ space.

I’m no expert when it comes to this stuff, so I’m interested in hearing what you guys think.

We have this logged as a feature request. It could be a part of “reworking tone mapping” listed here: Trello
At some point we will rework the VFB and various tone mapping/post processing options it offers.

very good news. thanks

With the new tone mapping in Corona 8+ I think this thread is not relevant any more. If anyone has some further comments/features requests, please start a new thread.
