Vantage Issues

I have to install Vantage every time I use it because the toolbar is gone each time. I can’t even create a new toolbar because the Vantage category is no longer there.

You mean the Vantage toolbar in 3ds Max? What Max, V-Ray for Max and Chaos Vantage versions are you using?

I think it is MAX nonsense. It seems to be working now, but I woke up to a MAX launch error talking about MAX being corrupt, and to restore from the factory. I declined and MAX launched fine, and the toolbar is there.

Again, I go to use Vantage and the toolbar is gone, nowhere to be found. How frustrating!

Did you try to right click on the black grey area a check on the Vantage toolbar? check the attached image.
Or did you try to reset Max by deleting the ENU Folder?

Hi Bobby,

That is very unfortunate that you are experiencing difficulties. What Max, V-Ray for Max and Chaos Vantage versions are you using? I think that this is a problem on 3ds Max’s side and not Vantage but I need the requested info to try and reproduce it.

I couldn’t find how to add Chaos Vantage Live Link in the menu or toolbar in 3ds max 2020 after updating Vantage from version 1.0.0 to 1.6.2

My solution: Moved back to version 1.0.0

My specs: 3ds Max 2020 + Vray 5, hotfix 2

Hi agalar_ragimov,

Since version Chaos Vantage 1.4.0 the Live Link scripts are removed from the Vantage installation and from the Customize menu. They are automatically installed with V-Ray 5 for 3ds Max, update 1 and later. After installing the latest versions of V-Ray and Vantage, in Max you can enable(should be visible by default) the Vantage toolbar by doing what Alokpatil suggested - right-click on the toolbar area and check ‘Vantage toolbar’. Can you please try it and say if it works for you?

We cannot reproduce it on our end. It sounds like a MAX corruption or similar. Have you tried a clean reinstall of Max?

Hi,
same problem on my side. Max 2021 with latest Vray 5 and Vantage. Every reboot the toolbar has gone, when installing Vantage freshly it is coming back. My feeling is that Vray/Max losses the connection to Vantage and than hiding the toolbar ;-).

I’m not a Max expert, but this issue seems to be related to the Workspace feature ( https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/getting-started/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2021/ENU/3DSMax-Basics/files/GUID-CC462067-0788-4EB2-ACE9-D3897085E5F3-htm.html )

I found the Vantage toolbar in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Autodesk\3dsMax\2021 - 64bit\ENU\en-US\UI\MaxStartUI.cuix as well as in another .cuix file in the Workspaces subfolder. I suspect your 3ds Max is configured to default to a workspace that doesn’t include this toolbar and it’s a matter of changing Workspace settings.

I still have to reinstall Vantage every time I want to use it. I did change the Workspace, which didn’t help, and now I have to open my layer manager every time I launch MAX; it doesn’t remember it.

Still happening. I can’t say every time I start MAX the toolbar is gone, but almost every time I go to use it, it is gone. Very frustrating.

It is strange that re-installing Vantage makes any difference.
The link between Vantage and 3ds Max is implemented using a registry keys.
V-Ray for 3ds Max reads two keys at the following location:
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Chaos Vantage”
The key names are:
“UninstallString” and “DisplayVersion”.

V-Ray then checks Vantage versions and extracts Vantage installation path, usually:
“C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\Vantage”

And then tries to execute max scripts provided by the Vantage installation, usually:
“C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\Vantage\dcc_scripts\3dsMax”

Once the Vantage toolbar is gone, could you check the registry keys contents is valid and the vantage scripts exist at the expected location?

Windows 7 is a 13-year-old operating system, WOW!. I’ll follow this and let you know. Thank you! I think it is probably a Windows 11 rights issue.
