Tower in Beirut for VVDA

Hi everyone,

Those images are finally out of NDA. Project is by Vincent Van Duysen Architects.

I had some little masking issues in PS that did alias the glass blades for the exterior shot, especially in the night one. Minimalist treatment of the surroundings is a wish of the architect.

But anyway, it was a real rewarding challenge to do these images

Credits for the blinds goes to Christian Bauer

beautiful work.

Hehe, that’s how we know him

Nice project. Love the nightview!

i love the ground around the bottom of the trees - really nice touch.

The lobby shots are just awesome, i would love to see them in higher resolution. How did you create the night version of the exterior?

The night shot is great!!!

hehe well i saw the first shot and thought “well that looks a bit plain, I bet the rest of these will be boring” well I couldnt have been more wrong.

Very nice images!!! especially the night shot and the lobby shots with the tree.

Well done, really great renders.

wow, stunning work…

congratulations !

Very nice images but night shot is … Fantastic!

Fantastic! Again the night shot is brilliant. I’d love to know more about how you got the effect on the building.

Richard

very-very nice!
congratulations!
the night shot and that winter garden shot are awesome!

I agree with ene, I like the night shot!!!

Really nice images. Are the interior night scene lights Vray lights or were they created in PS? They look great either way.

Really like the use of the other buildings as negative space. Nice composition.

Those atrium shots are incredible. Award winning work.

Thanks all for your comments ! I’m glad to see that the night shot was appreciated  The quality of the image is nothing compared to the quality of the client.

I swapped the lobby views for higher resolution ones.

sv : the ground (and the ceiling) were directly inspired by a reference (Moroso chairs, see below) the ground was PSed in and the ceiling modelled & textured by myself.

digtlpete : thanks for the comment on the composition, I worked on the overall compo alot tho find a good point of view

DaForce : I agree with you, this work is approx one year old and when i look back at it, the exterior day should be improved, IMO on the contrat composition. Anyway, I was quite happy with the result of having a sort of white glowing monolith, without losing the facade pattern… which was again a client wish.

jophus14 : The lights were only vrayLightmat with a strong multiplier. It is the only light source in this scene. “Tweaked” universal vray settings and curve work in PS did the rest

About the night shot, the render wasn’t actually satisfying at all, so I did heavy PS work on it. The lightning was, if my memory is good, planes elements in the back of each office cell with a randommatID modifier the light 50% percent of them + a environnement lightning (don’t remember if it was HDR, but maybe a plain color)

The render appeared way too dark, so I extract some masks of the glass facade and of the underneath facade to rework each element in PS after… see below

The 4 interior shots asked waay less PS work (curves, color balance, slight glow etc.)

Some illustrations of the process :

sorry for the revival, but this is still one of my favorite night shots. What did you mean by planes elements and randommatID modifier? Do you have multiple vray-light materials, and are they part of a multi-sub material that’s applied to the interior geometry? Have you basically lit the back wall of the offices?
