Turning boat animation, unwanted particles/waves at the borders.

Hi,

I’ve been working on a turning speedboat animation. The simulation is constrained to follow the boat’s path along the XY plane.

However, when the boat turns, I’m getting unwanted waves and foam appearing along the edges of the simulator. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

In an earlier attempt, I tried rotating the simulator to match the path, but that caused strange behavior in the boat’s wake. In my current setup, I’m using a position constraint and keeping the simulator’s orientation straight.

Is there a tutorial for creating a setup like this, where the motion isn’t just a straight line like in the old “Default Ship” tutorial?

Ok, I had the weekend off, and today I found a similar thread.

The suggestion there is to create a volume and only allow particle births inside it. I will try that.

While the use of a particle volume helps removing unwanted particles, it migth not remove the wave on the surface that is forming in front of the simulator. Does anyone have a suggestion for how to avoid that?

hi Markus
i’v flagged this up a couple years ago, it’s on the “to do list”, don’t hold your breath it getting fixed !
