Unable to render the .vantage file in another PC.

Hi, guys! How have you been?

When I try to send a .vantage file to render in another computer, it simply doesn’t load, as you can see here: https://www.loom.com/share/bd9d6cc06…13d174c357edd7

Could you help me with that issue?
All the best,

P.S.: for some reason, I’m not able to delete this comment

Hi Gabriel,

Possibly the reason why this is happening it’s because in the .vantage file the path to the imported scene is absolute e.g.
"root_filename": "E:/TEMP/Vantage_Scenes/Interior/Kitchen.vrscene",

And on the second machine that you try to open it that path doesn’t exist. If you modify the .vantage file(with Notepad for example) and remove the absolute path and make it relative like:
"root_filename": "Kitchen.vrscene",

This way Vantage will search for the .vrscenefile in the directory of the .vantage file.
I will log it as an improvement request and inform you when there is some development.

Best regards,
Alexander

Thank you for your quick and accurate response, Alexander!

I did what you suggested me to, and now I can get the .vantage file to be opened. The problem is, even though the file is being opened, all assets - proxies, textures, hdrs, and ies - are missing.

You can find attached to this comment the images of what the project is supposed to be, and what is actually currently looking like.

And as Chaos Vantage has no such an option as the “Pack Project” we have on V-Ray, I’m not sure what is the correct way to export a Vantage project to be rendered in another pc with all of its files.

Update: some proxies I already had, as grass and flowers are loading correctly, but the same isn’t happening with the other assets.

Tks for your help again.
All the best,
Gabriel Chahoud

Hi again Gabriel,

When loading a scene, if the assets (textures, proxies) are missing from their original paths or the scene folder(in the .vrscene probably they are listed as full paths ) , Chaos Vantage looks for them next to where the .vrscene file is in a folder that has one of the following names:
assets, maps, proxy, textures, vray_proxy
If you move all assets that are used in the scene in a single folder that should solve the issue.

Best regards,
Alexander

In your video I can see the .vantage file has the same name as the .vrscene file and the assets folder is in the same location. If you load the .vrscene file on the second PC instead of the .vantage file, it will automatically search for a .vantage file with the same name to load settings from (making manual editing of the root_filename unnecessary) and it should also find any files referenced by the .vrscene file in the ‘assets’ folder even though the absolute path is not the same as in the .vrscene. I’m not sure it will resolve any additional HDRI file you might have saved in the vantage file though.

Finding vrscene textures in a subfolder named ‘assets’ or ‘maps’ (and a few other names) should always work though, so I’m a bit puzzled why the textures didn’t load. The app is using UTF-8 too, so the non-English characters shouldn’t be a problem, though you could try moving files to a path with only basic ASCII characters if the issue persists.

If you’re still having troubles after trying these things, sharing this log file might help (note that object names and file names can be seen, so if this is not something to share publicly you could email it instead).

Hi Nikola and Alexander,

Thank you for the help! As I’m working on a big project, divided into about 15 files, I thought I had maybe missed something.

So I reexported all assets involved into only one folder, renamed them as “assets” and followed all the instructions you gave me. After that, I moved a copy of all .vrsecene and .vatage files together with the assets folder. Finally, I sent everything to the other computer, and everything is working as expected now.

By the way, I just wanted to say that I’m in love with Vantage! I work with V-Ray for SketchUp, and after finishing 14 still images I had a video to create, and probably I would have used another software for that (which means a lot of o working setting lighting and materials). Even though I don’t have an RTX GPU (I’m currently using a GTX 1080ti), I decided to give it a try and create the video with Vantage. It saved me a lot of time and delivered good results, keeping the level of photorealism consistent with the still images! Kudos to the Chaos Group team for such an amazing tool!

I’m super excited to see it evolving and having features such as light animation!

P.S.: non-related issue - every time I try to use an emoji here on the forum, the emoji, and the entire message after it doesn’t show as soon as I click the “Post Reply” button.
