unfold a 3d modell, and build a paper modell of it....

hello to everyone…

maybe someone knows some plugins or a workaround.
first of all, you can tell me any program you know, which is able to do it…

for example…

if i have a cube in 3d

- i want to build the cube out of paper…

i would like to have an programm to unfold the faces of the cube, to print it on paper, take a knife, cut it out and rebuild it in the real world…

generally i work with acad and max…
but as said aboth, i would like to know any programm, that is able to handle this problem…

ps: of course i don’t want to do it with a cube ;-), but something more complicated…

thanx in advance for any comment

hi,

formZ can do it.
it’s a lousy app in my opinion, but that’s one thing it is capable of.
it can even add glue stripes to the folding model.
i did it once with a simplified human head, it was a pain to fold it though.

pepakura can do it.

wonderful app, I personally love using it.

check it out here:

hello to you two!!!

thanx for your answers right know…

i will have a look at it.

if anybody else knows some programmes, please let me know…

thanx once again

so long

psy- that thing is so cool… now Ive gotta find a use for it!

How is the shareware version limited, anyone? before I inflict my computer with another dodgy app.

franzISKA,

Is this for UV’ing a model or really do paper cut-outs?

For UV’ing there can be some distortion in the model during the unfold process but obviously not for an actual paper application.

The other thing is that for any complex model you might end up with a lot of seams that would have to be connected.

Something you might want to try is using DeepUV or UVW Unwrap to create the UV’s (but do them carefully and without distortion) and then print out the resulting UV wireframe map… not sure…
