Replaced my main 3930k rig with a 7980xe, 128gb ram, 2 x 1080ti rig. Total of 48 cores now.
Chaosgroup did a great job at making it so easy to connect them all with distributed rendering.
I gradually built this up over 5 years. If I were to start all over again, I’d invest in a more GPU oriented setup.
Nice setup, how do you like the C700P as far as keeping things cool? I’m using a Define R6 currently and its way to small and struggles with thermals at times.
what monitors and how do you find them?
I would be lying if I said I didn’t get it mainly because it looks the coolest out of the ones compatible with E ATX boards haha. But yea it has good airflow, probably the same as the Cosmos II

how do you find the 7980 XE for overclocking and power consumption? im seriously considering one, since, while overpriced, they seem to overclock easily and well, and offer equivalent power for much less cost than an equivalent dual xeon setup, and giving the all-important single core performance that xeons lack. ive read various reviews stating “4.1 ghz, easy” all the way up to “could easily reach 5ghz with decent cooling” (something i have in abundance) either the chips are very variable or…
i have however also read that power consumption can get eye-wateringly high with an OC. cheap power is something im unfortunately lacking.
oscillating between that and the Threadripper, although with a decent OC (4.3+) it really leaves TR in the dust.
I hear you there, Ive been looking a lot for an E-ATX compatible case and have gone through a lot that say they can take and E-ATX but in actual fact they can not. I picked up the C700P and the 500P-Mesh on the weekend and going to take the 700P back, that thing is a realy nice case on the outside but didn’t like some of the internal choices they made. Like the cover directly over the cpu could have been made to fit much better under the motherboard, and the fact that there is only 2 drive caddies included. I would have thought for that price point it would have at least 4 or so. Anyway So far I’m happy with the 500P Mesh, they made a lot of improvements in the new version and it will fit an E-ATX

Hey there, the 7980xe overclocks great for me, but I don’t have a comparison because it is the first pc I’ve overclocked. Was having SO many problems for like 2 months, like the kernal event 41 shutdown bs etc. I put the overclock to 4.1ghz instead of 4.2@ghz and never had any more problems. I highly recommend delidding it though. It gets very hot.
Doesn’t this void your warranty? You are also risking trashing your brand new $2500 CPU.
I didn’t do it personally, I got it with the service from Silicon Lottery. From what I’ve heard they have a very good reputation.
