Hi all

As mentioned in the title Urgently Need FREE GIS or DEM data for import into 3DEM or terragen then export MAX of any desert area!

Please help!:face_with_spiral_eyes:

I tried various websites but find it too complicated. I just want to select an area and download height info so I can make a terrain! It must be simpler than trying all day so far to accomplish this (i’m sure simple) task

Or any other way to quickly create fairly average desert terrain! (only free programs and methods please)

I jumped the gun a bit there :slight_smile:
I’m just going to use sat photo image, tweak it a bit, and use it as discplacement.

You can download DEM data for all of the US here:

http://data.geocomm.com/catalog/US/sublist.html

For example, here is the DEM data for Carson City County, Nevada:
http://data.geocomm.com/catalog/US/61067/1191/group4-3.html

They have free data available (the free data is the green arrow). The data you’ll get is in sdts format, but there is a free converter floating around for sdts to dem format.

you can select it from the National map viewer if you’re looking for data of a US area, they have free downloads of 30m data. its a bit of an arcane interface, but it works !
