i am using some free linear lights with an IES file for distribution and shadows set to shadow maps. my problem is that once i have dropped just a single one of these lights into my scene - the rendering time has gone through the roof.
here’s the image without any of the linear lights:
has anyone else used the linear lights with vray? had the same problem?
yeah … i get the same problem…
but some ies files go fast and some go slow …all to do with the light distribution i geuss… dont know …always miffed me…its a real shame cos you get some real nice light falloff with ies.
Try this…make a renderable rectangular spline a above and bit smaller then your ceiling…maker sure to give it some thickness. Put a VRAYHDRI Map http://www.d3cg.com/vray/white3.hdr to the self illumination slot of a standard mat. Adjust the hdri mult to get the desired lighting effect. It’s a quick work around…here is a quick example…
i always try to use the IES file first, just so that i know that the light distribution is relatively accurate. but, it looks like you got just about the exact same distribution as i got.
