V-Ray 1.5 for Rhino Beta

Hi,

Within the latest V-Ray 1.5 for Rhino Beta is there a way to render matte shadow? Or some similar feature?

No, that feature has not been added in this release as far as I know.

Has there been any comment on it for any other release? It is so useful, yet its not available for Rhino :frowning:

We do plan on adding this feature in the future, but our plate was pretty full already with the features that we did add in this release. We understand that it is a very useful feature to have, and we look forward to adding it soon.

Thanks for the update.

One other thing, there are a lot of new settings and roll out changes is there a guide anywhere? For example in the material editor now next to reflection colour there is a spinner for a value. Does this control the intensity of the colour value?

Hello James-

Unfortunately, we do not have a new guide yet. We will keep you posted on this.

The spinner beside the reflection color controls the intensity of the reflection map and does not effect the intensity of the color.

Best regards,
Corey

Thanks for your help

In the previous version of VfR the “assign material to layer” pop up showed s the layers list with a check-list, this allowed to apply the same material to many layers at the same time. This is no longer possible in version 1.5, can you fix that? Thank you.

Please send a bug report to vfrwip@chaosgroup.com so we can have this in our bug tracker.

if you hold down control key ,you can.

Renee

Thank You!

I have also noticed a small black square that appears at 0,0,0. I have no ground plane, jut rendering an object in floating space. If I move the objects and camera away from the centre origin the black square is gone. So its fixed at 0,0,0. Any ideas what this is?

Any help on this? I cant seem to figure out what this black square is??

I can’t reproduce the issue. Can you send me the scene or the steps to reproduce the issue?

Hi,

Annoyingly I cannot seem to reproduce this on another PC. I will send the file that has the black square when I get home. Also when adding a Vray dome if you click to add another it increases in size? Does size matter in Rhino? Does everything need to be inside it to render correctly?

Thanks,

Hi
I noticed the size issue, but size and the position really doesn’t affect the dome light and you don’t need to have everything inside it.

Hi I have sent the scene to vfrwip@chaosgroup.com I hope that is the correct email to reach you? Also on the dome light there seems to be what looks like a sun? It is a circle with lines around it. It the start this sits centre to the dome how ever ion this scene it sits off to the side. Is there a reason for it moving? How did this happen?

Thanks,

The Dome light icon, is basically a omni ligth icon with a semi sphere geometry and they are grouped. If you ungroup it, you will broke the dome light. Also You can only scale the dome light icon in 3D, if you scale it in 1d or 2d you will also brake the dome light. Anyway I will look at the scene, that email is ok.

Hi James
I looked the scene and the black square it is a very very small light. It is so small that you can’t even zoom in on it if you have other geometries in the viewpor. To select the bad light, first hide the dome light, then type “sellight” in the command line. You will se that it said that one light has been selected. Just click delete. No more black square on the render.
