V-Ray 7.3 appears to conflict with the native Node Wrangler add-on

Node Wrangler seems to have stopped working

Hi @binjun_wu

That’s likely caused by our version of the wrangler that works better with V-Ray nodes. I cannot reliably reproduce it and I am not completely sure why it’s happening at the moment but can you try temporarily disabling preferences auto-save(so you won’t end up losing any of your settings) and clicking Restore on your Node Editor settings in the Keymap preferences section? If both addons shortcuts work well after then you can Save your preferences and re-enable auto-save.

The main issue is that the Ctrl + Shift + Right Mouse Button shortcut isn’t working properly — the one used to mix/blend two Cycles nodes. You were right, I’ll test it a bit more.

Is there anything I need to setup to make sure the VRay Node Wrangler is working? Or deactivate the Blender Node Wrangler?

We tried making it so that the V-Ray wrangler work out of the box even with the built-in wrangler enabled, however, I guess there are still problems with using the same shortcuts. You can try the steps that I described above with clicking Restore on your Node Editor keymap, but if those don’t work you can also try temporarily disabling the built-in wrangler to check if that fixes it. We will try and reproduce these problems and to find a more reliable solution. Also are you on Windows and Blender version are you using?

Hi @bozhidar_ivanov ,
I’m not entirely sure who the question was addressed to, but I use V-Ray on a Mac. It seems that Node Wrangler works as exepcted in Cycles, whereas in V-Ray, it offers only a fraction of the options available in Cycles—it feels somewhat crippled. (No Texture Setup etc just the possibility to swap nodes) Is there any documentation yet on how to use the V-Ray Node Wrangler? Or is it still being updated? If it works as intended, it would be a great feature.

I guess the OS questions was for both, but I expect this to me mostly a problem on UNIX OS-es. Also with Shift+W don’t you see this menu? If you don’t, then it likely means it’s a problem with the keybindings and shortcuts. Our docs page is being prepared and has been published yet.

No, no V-Ray Wrangler Menu - also there is no V-Ray Wrangler in the (enabled) Addons list in my case. Don’t know if there should be though.

It’s expected to be like that. It’s bundled into V-Ray. Looks like you are also having problems with conflicts between the two :frowning:

Restore Keymap did solve the problem! Thank you for the help.

The problem has been solved, thank you

Hey, bozhidar,

I followed your steps, and it solved the conflict for the Shading tab, but in the Compositing tab I’m getting an error when I CTRL + SHIFT + LMB on any node to quickly preview it. The Viewer node isn’t called with this shortcut.

“Forward to node.select_link_viewer failed: Error: RNA_property_pointer_set: expected ID type, not NODE_OT_select”

Only solution was to deactivate VRay and restore the Node Editor settings on the keymap.
Is there a way to disable VRay Wrangler?

Our wrangler has some weird hacks for the keybindings which seem to be part of what is causong rhe problems. Sadly it cannot be easily deactivated.
