Good morning everyone, after installing the latest V-Ray 7.20 update, V-Ray started crashing at every rendering if launched on CPU. If I use V-ray GPU I have no problems. I tried to render with Arnold render on CPU and I tried various benchmarks to stress the CPU, and I have no problems. The problem was not present with the V-Ray 7.10 version. I also tried installing 7.20.04 and 7.20.05, but the problem remained. PC: win 11. Asus X670E-A + AMD 9950x (no oc \ no AI oc) 128GB ram DDR5 Corsair dominator+ ZOTAC RTX5090 o.c. white edition + M2 Samsung. I’ve tried everything I can think of, from updating Windows to updating drivers, and now I’m out of ideas, and I’m thinking of formatting, but if you have any suggestions, I’ll try your suggestions first and as a last resort, format! Thanks for the help. Filippo
What does the log say? Does it also crash on very simple scenes?
Good morning, I’ve attached the log file, I hope it helps. Yes, the problem occurs even with very simple scenes. I also tried with piano+dome+cube, but V-Ray crashes in both progressive and bucket modes. Thanks a lot and have a nice day. Filippo

Mind if you attach the simple scene so we can troubleshoot?
Based on the log, there doesn’t seem to be a crash. You seem to have DR active, but no server can be found. Have you started a VRaySpawner on the slave you’re trying to reach? Or was DR activated by accident?
I checked, distributed rendering was enabled by mistake only in VRAYGPU mode, in Vary CPU, the checkbox for distributed rendering is disabled. I also use Vantage, I don’t know if this could change in the log file due to the export with VRAY GPU. I’m also attaching a very simple file, but I think I’ll format it over the weekend in the next few days unless I fix it first. Thanks for your help. FIlippo (file : 3dsmax 2025)

No crashes on my end. Try reinstalling (clean reinstall, not repair) of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. A setup file is located in the V-Ray folders (“C:\Program Files\Chaos\V-Ray\3ds Max 2026\utils\vc_redist.x64.exe”). Make sure you restart your PC afterwards.
Good morning, it was hard but I solved it! I tried everything, formatted the PC, installed Max and vary and the problem persisted, I also did a clean training (format:/u) but V-Ray crashed. After days of testing I solved by updating the BIOS and the AMD chipset to the latest version (asus ROG X670E-A motherboard with 9950x CPU)…after all OK! thanks for the help. Filippo
