V-Ray GPU and 4 Overlapping VDBs Limit

Hi all

I’m running V-Ray 6 and it still seems to have the issue where overlapping VDBs create artifacts when rendering on the GPU. CPU rendering does not cause this. Is there any workaround for it (other than that moving grids sufficiently far away from each other)? Reason why this solution is not so feasible is because when rendering nebulae, a lot of the VDBs will need to overlap to get a sense of a continuous volume. Thank you!

Wondering if this is still an issue in the newest release of V-Ray? Thanks

Not yet, I’m afraid.

This is still an issue in V-Ray 7, is it going to be fixed at some point? Rendering VDBs is so much faster with GPU than CPU

Indeed, it is. We are thinking of ways to overcome this limitation, but the matter is not as simple as it seems.

Cool, thanks for the update!

Hi there, any new developments?

No news, I’m afraid.

Hi @NorthVisualStudio

I’ve added this to the 2026 roadmap. We will see what could be done here

Best,

Hi there

Much appreciated, I feel like this might be kind of a niche request, but it would be awesome if there would be a solution to it. Thanks!
