Vantage is so slow now

I took six months off of Vantage, and now that I am back after a few releases, it isn’t the same software. When I switch to MAX, everything freezes for a few minutes. I do something, and again, it freezes for a few more minutes. When I try to go back to Vantage after minimizing it, I can’t bring it back up. When Vantage does start rendering, my PC locks up, so I can’t do anything else. Aslo, I have to have my settings a lot higher to get the same resulte I was getting before.

Would it be possible to record a short video showing these issues ?

I will try on my next project. Now I have stopped Vantage and am waiting for MAX to come back alive. It has been a few minutes so far. My whole PC is frozen.

I exported as a VRSCENE, but I lost my Forest Pack stuff - Why would that be?

As usual: update drivers, vray-fp, purge your file, delete (with backup) ENU folder

Where can I find my ticket?

It sounds like your machine is running out of memory (could be VRAM or system RAM)

I monitor the Vantage bottom-right corner, and it’s only using a small amount of my VRAM. I animated an even larger project 6 months ago and ran into an issue. It was working fine earlier this week, but it started failing little by little.

In theory other apps (most of all 3ds Max, but also browsers, etc.) could be using the rest of the VRAM. Or the issue could be with main RAM, especially if your RAM is not at least twice your VRAM. I’m just speculating of course.

I have 128 GB of RAM and 24 GB of VRAM. When Vantage loads my scene, everything freezes and I can’t do anything but force me PC to reboot. I am going to spend today troubleshooting this until I get some answers. The scene will eventually load into Vantage, but without any FPP elements. Again, I can set new seeds; FPP reappears, but if I reopen the scene, I have to start over. It was working fine on an interior with trees outside - pretty simple- but then the trees stopped rendering. I reinstalled V-Ray, Vantage, and FPP. I deleted the MAX ENU, and my next step is to make sure the trees I am using in FPP are proxied. Never mattered before, but we’ll see.

To be contuned… stay tuned…

Do you have any edge trimming (boundary checking - edge) enabled ? I think this can generate huge amounts of unique data and slow both the export and the loading in Vantage. Another thing is an animated camera + frustum culling enabled, then each frame needs a reexport of the instances.

I will check, thanks.

I am looking at VRAM, and Windows takes maybe 3%, and nothing much changes when I launch MAX. When I open my scene, again, not much changes. When I launch Vantage, it jumps to 100%. 24GB card

I remember using Vantage years ago and even the largest scenes took almost no VRAM. Something isn’t right here.

Okay, I downloaded the recommended driver, but it isn’t compatible with my card. Sounds like a problem.

Edge triming is grayed out and shows Point

Maybe try disabling displacement before opening the scene. Displacement can potentially eat lots of memory. Or ideally send us the scene so we can figure out if there is a bug.

I tried in V-Ray but didn’t in Vantage. I will do that and report back.
