We are in the process of building a new video editing machine and for a couple of reasons (duplexing and user limits) we want to install Windows 2003 Server.
However, we need to know if Server is compatible with our software. I am in the process of trying to contact various support companies, but does anyone have experience? We use the following software:
After Effects 6.5 Professional
Adobe Creative Suite CS2 (illustrator CS2, Premiere CS2, Photoshop CS2 etc etc)
Max 8
Vray 1.5 RCS (obviously!)
Backburner 3
Autodesk ADT
we have backburner3 manager running on win2003 server.at the same time, this server is a rendernode running 3dsmax8 sp3 and VRay 1.5
all running fine, no problems at all !
Well i bought Premiere 2.0, not thinking it would’nt work! … and it doesnt, it also doesnt load on xp64 either. Which seems a little odd considering you need a bucket load of ram..
yeah i did and i they told me that premiere2.0 does’nt run on xp64?. did it load ok? i geuss it must of done, mine wont even instal, just disapears? and on 2003 it says that this OS isnt supported. pretty disapointing really as ive have to create a second boot on my workstation with xp2 on it, but now i cant use all my ram!..
Its a dual, dual core opteron 275 8 gig of ram and xp64.. all my other 32bit apps work fine and just drop in the x86 folder?, but if you look on the adobe forum, people on there are complaining about this issue.
I’m in a similar position, having just upgraded from Premiere Pro 1.5 which runs fine on my Windows 2003 Server Enterprise dual-Athlon/2GB RAM/RAID 0/1 system (combined server & workstation for production and video streaming). The base system has been happily running various versions of Premiere since 2002, first with XP and then later Windows 2003.
I assumed that because Premiere Pro 1.5 runs on it perfectly, even though it is only supported on XP, that Premiere Pro 2 would do the same.
Alas, the installer stops at the first hurdle, telling me that
“Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 installer is designed to run on Windows XP SP2 or higher.”
I always understood that Windows 2003 was higher than XP, but it seems Adobe have decided not.
As a systems developer I can’t think of anything in the codebase of Windows 2003 that would prevent Premiere from running on it, so it appears to be an arbitary decision to exclude Windows 2003.
I’m now looking at ways to have Windows 2003 temporarily report itself as XP to fool the installer.
Setting compatibility mode to XP for setup.exe doesn’t work, and it can’t be set for msiexec.exe because that is considered part of the operating system.
