VFB denoiser creates black image when opening a different vrimg

As the title says, for some reason the vfb seems unable to denoiser a 2nd vrimg file. VFB screen just goes to black.

So the steps we normally take:
- Open Max
- Load vrimg of completed render in framebuffer
- save out passes
- Open next vrimg of another render in framebuffer
- save out passes*

However during the second vrimg the denoiser will only give a black image. We’re working with MAX2023 and vray6 (latest version, not nightly)

Another issue we are running into that might be linked, the vrimg files seems to no longer save the toning setup. Before you could load a vrimg and it would load the correct toning and it was saved. But it has started to ignore that aswell…and just resets to our default max startup file settings. Besides ITOO updates or general windows updates nothing has changed in our setup from when it did work correctly.

I just tried clearing passes and reloading a vrimg but that didn’t help. So really not sure what will fix it, and I REALLY don’t want to have to restart max for every bloody save!

Hopefully you guys know of the issue and solution, thanks!

Was the second .vrimg rendered with a VRay Denoiser pass? Does it happen on any scene? If yes, try resetting your 3ds Max preferences and see if that makes a difference.

Hi,

Figured a fix out this morning. If I change any value in lightmix it will fix it and the denoiser will work again.

The issue with the vfb not loading the toning settings from the vrimg is still present. So resetting will be the next step.
