VFB, Max Render Window, and V-ray Lens Effects inquiry

Question about the V-ray Lens Effects…

When I am rendering to the VFB and playing around with the V-Ray Lens Effects, the standard max render window pops up every time
I update the affect. It does it as well when "“Interactive” is ticked.
Is there a way to stop this behavior? (It’s really annoying to keep closing that every time.)

Thanks

Sorry for the off-topic but for us it’s a big disappointment that this nice lens effect is only a post production effect in the first place. This way you can just take the picture into Photoshop, do it yourself and it will be the same :frowning:

Yes - do not close it  The V-Ray VFB will be pushed on top of the 3ds Max frame buffer and the 3ds Max VFB will stay out of the way in the background.

Vlado

A post effect is the only meaningful way to implement this. I’m not aware of any other way this is done in any piece of software. This is because doing a physical simulation is a) excruciatingly slow and b) hard to control.

Hello Vlado, is the fix for this available soon or?? Starting a big project soon and was hoping it would be fixed.
Thanks, JR

The 3ds Max VFB popping up? I can’t fix it for the moment, unfortunately; 3ds Max goes to lengths to make sure its frame buffer is visible. Just leave it as it is - like I said, while it’s open it will stay in the background.

On the other hand, we are working on adding the lens effects into the frame buffer itself, which will solve this particular issue.

Vlado

Ooops, I am sorry. I was actually posting the question in the wrong place…
I meant to ask about this problem…

(Sounds like a nice solution for the lens effect, though.)
Thank you.

Sorry for the delay; will get it to you a bit later today.

Thank you very much Vlado

please do send, thanks

Hi,
I’m wondering why sometimes when i update the effects it starts rendering all over again and other times it just updates the glare/bloom which I want.
How does it work ? Do I need to have the effects window open before I hit render ? or has it nothing to do with that ?
My steps are,
Add Vray effects
Hit render
open the effects window
make changes to get the glare effect I’m after.

What would make it rerender the scene ?

best regards

Hi, I have also experienced this and just thought I did something wrong, but never figured it out…

even if it seems strange, but yes, leave it open, then lens effects works as expected, well …more or less

Thanks Zeronove,
I’d like to know if this is by design ? or its a bug ?
Its a pain to render a highres render, adjust the glare and it starts to re-render all over again.
It should work regardless of opening it before hitting render and any other changes I make to the scene after the render has finished.

It doesn’t actually.
I tested Vray Lens Effects and even made a small tutorial about this.
It re-renders the image only when you go out of VrayLensEffects and make changes.
But I had problems with “interactive” mode. It freezed and crashed. Without interactive mode, all seems fine.

First make a render through the VrayLens Effect window.
Then every time you change a parameter, click update.

Okay,
I don’t see what the purpose of not being able to apply the Lens effects after rendering a FINAL.
So this means I have to have it setup first, then set off the FINAL render.
I’d like to tweak it after I have render I high res.

cheers

From what I understand, you need to first open the Effects window, and then do the rendering. Then the interactive mode should work as expected.

The lens effects require some additional information (i.e. the original image colors, before any color mapping or gamma correction). Especially for a high resolution image, this information takes quite a bit of RAM. It makes no sense to keep this data around every single time, just in case you want to apply lens effects afterwards. It’s all about using RAM efficiently.
