Hey guys,
in the past this issue was present before, but with the recent update to Vray 7.4, panning and zooming is very slow and laggy on hires images (8K and up). Sometimes I have to wait around 3 seconds before I can see the area update. While waiting, there is also running a blue progress bar in the layer stack.
How can this be improved?
The UI is generally decoupled from any processing to avoid UI lag. However as everywhere it relies on the fact the OS yields to the UI thread to process UI events.
Personally I don’t see such delay so I would need more info on the exact condition in your case like :
- Rendering or just working on an image ?
- Are you in RGB, composite or light mix mode ?
- Do you have any active post fx (denoiser, sharpen/blur, lensfx) ?
- Do you have anything under the background/foreground folder ?
You can pm me if you prefer.
Hi,
it is especially noticable while rendering.
The image is RGB, no background or foreground, Lens FX is turned on. But this should only be calculated after render end, right?

If you do bucker rendering yes, but not if you do a progressive or IPR rendering - there is a settings for postfx update frequency in the render settings to control this behavior. I don’t say this is the cause, just answering your question on this though.
But so if you see this during rendering it will be hard to diagnose remotely - rendering threads are by definition with higher priority and lead to lower UI response. Only for IPR there are consideration on UI interactivity in general so again it will depends on the exact rendering scenario we are talking about here (CPU/GPU, bucker/progressive/IPR).
Assuming there is no real issue to fix or we cannot fix that, in general the best way to keep the UI responsive is to keep at least one core/thread available to process GUI events. There is a documented evar to force the maximum number of threads used by V-Ray. You can try that out and see if it makes any difference.
