Recently run into a very frustrating recurrent bug. Working as normal in SU I deleted a load of geometry and purged the file- all unused materials, components, etc disappeared as you’d expect, including from VfSU’s Material Editor. However, after closing and reopening the skp file all the materials reappear, both in the SU Material Editor and the VfSU Material Editor.
I’ve seen this behavior in 3 skp/VfSU files so far and not only is it reproducable, it appears to be almost impossible to fix at this end. Only workaround I’ve found is to save out the visopt of the affected file and vismats for all the materials, open a fresh skp file, copypaste all geometry into the new file, load the saved visopt and import the saved vismats. This really isn’t even a viable workaround as a) it’s a huge amount of work and b) the next time you purge it’s the same problem all over again.
I can email affected models to ASGvis if necessary.
LOL, talk about the solution to a problem staring me right in the face! Just did the open options/close options trick, saved, closed and reopened and voila, a nice clean skp/VfSU file! Thanks Thom- messy files really bring out the obsessive complulsive in me!
LOL, sometimes I think a good dose of OCD is actually beneficial for working with visualisation.
Still think it’s incredible that the 3D Warehouse doesn’t automatically purge uploaded skp files, seems such an obvious and simple feature to implement. It’s amazing how even many experienced modellers are pretty sloppy with purging skp files.
meh! I feel I sometimes do nothing but moan Purge Purge Purge to the rest of the people in my office. First thing I sdo when I take over a projet is purge and see the file size drop tofolds.
Fortunately we have a FormFont account which got clean purged, to scale, models with no extra layers. The Google Warehouse gives me the twitches. So you can guess what I feel about SU7’s ‘feature’ of linking the component library to the Warehouse… *twitch*
I’m having the same problem with colleagues using 3D warehouse and having materials retained by Vray in the SU files. I’ve tried the opening and closing vray options ‘trick’ but its doesn;t work, please can you describe exactly how you solved it?
