Background info:
Using Enscape/Sketchup with a Meta Quest 3. Computer specs meet Enscape minimums for VR.
I’m an architectural designer working primarily on residential interiors. Enscape has become a permanent part of my design and presentation workflow, I would like to better integrate VR into my process. I’m finding for residential interiors - effective representation of interior lighting is critical which means the rendering quality setting at “ultra” is the only option. Even dropping down to “high” degrades the lighting realism too much.
I’ve upgraded both my PC and VR headset, but I’m still finding some stuttering in VR on the “ultra” setting, and the halo effect on interior lighting is inescapable. I’ve concluded the hardware solution that will support real time rendering of complex interior lit scenes for VR just doesn’t exist yet. What I’d really like is a way to pre-render a scene for VR presentation when quality level is paramount. I’ve tried exporting a 360 stereo panorama, and while the image and lighting quality of a panorama export is amazing, I’m running into two issues:
-
The workflow to get from an exported 360 into the quest 3 headset is very confusing. I’ve been using the chaos upload management button in the sketchup toolbar, but I have to email myself a weblink that I then open in my email in a browser within the headset to get to link that can enable the immersive viewer. I tried the Chaos Cloud Collaboration, which somehow has some of my older panoramas already uploaded, but the only way I could find to get a new panorama into that environment was to export in enscape, open the chaos upload management, upload the panorama, then download it to my computer, then upload that file to Chaos cloud, then mark it as a panorama, and even then - I can’t get to an immersive view from the headset.
-
The second problem is potentially worse. When I can get through the steps to view a 360 panorama in the Quest 3, there is just enough un-synced movement of the image to cause immediate nausea. Its not something I want to put a client in. Is this just the nature of viewing a stereo panorama with a fixed viewing point in a 6D device or is there a way to avoid the issue?
So… what am I doing wrong? Is there a setting or tuning of the 360 export I need to adjust? Is there a way to produce a 360 panorama for viewing in a Quest 3 headset that is straightforward and will not cause nausea? Is there a way to pre-render an environment from enscape that will support 6D movement?
