Could something be added into the “edit images” to set the orientation or set the “default view” of individual panos?
Currently just the centre of the pano is used so it would be good to customise this.
Hey!
We have just planned to implement an item to add support for automatic/default/custom orientation for your panoramas.
Automatic is our current implementation, where if you link 2 panoramas together with hotspost, we calculate the orientation to simulate movement in the correct direction.
Default would be the center of the panorama if you need to keep this orientation.
Custom will be exactly what you are asking for - being able to set custom orientation for each of your panoramas when needed!
Thank you for your feedback!
Thank Vasil sounds perfect.
When do you think this might be implimented?
Hey @chris_jackson ,
Just to update you. The feature is currently in development and you can expect a release soon after we come back from the winter holidays.
Hope this helps!
Best regards,
Vasil
What drives the ‘in built’ orientation of the panoramas when they’re created? Because I keep running into issues with hotspots completely being ruined between versions. E.g. there is a door in a panorama, and I put a hotspot on that door. I upload a new version of the panorama, and now my hotspot is way over on a wall no where near the door (presumably because the hardcoded orientation of the panorama has changed? Even though in thumbnails of the image it looks exactly the same.)
Swapping between automatic/custom/original lets me change the starting view, but it doesn’t physically rotate the image in relation to the hotspot locations. I frequently batch render enscape panoramas (through Revit), and then have to go through the manual process of pressing upload one by one to send the files to the chaos portal, then I have to manually rename the all of the files, then (if these are new versions of existing panoramas) I have to download each file individually, then I have to go into the existing virtual tour and upload new versions of each file individually. And only then is it made apparent that the existing hotspots are completely ruined, because the orientation of the panoramas is for some reason different that the original batch rendering.
The only thing I can think of is it’s something to do with the orientation of the enscape view prior to the batch rendering being started? Or possibly a difference when using the panorama directly from the enscape upload, versus using the same panorama that has instead been downloaded and uploaded manually?
Either way, it is insanely frustrating, is there any way to manually correct or adjust the view so that hotspots can be re-aligned? And/or a reason I run into this behaviour?
I think it might be this. Steps to reproduce:
Render a panorama in Enscape and upload.
Add the uploaded panorama (directly from the Enscape Panoramas folder) to the Virtual Tour project
Add hotspots/comments/etc.
Now download the panorama from the ‘Enscape Panoramas’ folder
In the Virtual Tour, add a new version of the panorama and select the downloaded image
The orientation is completely skewed, all of the hotspots/comments/etc are misaligned, despite it being the same image.
I suspect it might be something to do with the uploads via Enscape having some sort of additional data or settings in them that allows the auto generation of hotspots, and this is lost or not translated the same way when the files are saved locally and then uploaded?
Either way, it basically means panoramas with auto generated hotspots can never be updated to new versions, OR, we avoid adding files directly from the Enscape Panoramas folder and stick to downloading them first and then reuploading. (And presumably lose the ability to auto add hot-spots in the process.)
Seems buggy.
Hey @Grey_Block
Why do you download the images and re-upload them as new version the tour? I am just trying to understand what you are trying to solve for by doing it?
For the general issue - there is some existing legacy issue that Enscape renders the panos 90 degrees to the side from where you camera is pointing when you click render. I know it doesn’t make much sense and we are compensating for this in Chaos Cloud so that the thumbnails and image direction is correct in relation to you camera orientation when you rendered. I am guessing when you download the image from Chaos Cloud, the image is now with the corrected orientation, but your original version is not. So when you re-upload it they have 90 degrees difference, but any hotspots and highlights created stay with their original coordinates and hence why they appear in the wrong locations for your new image version.
I will discuss this with the team internally - just wanted to understand why you need to download and re-upload panoramas as new versions?
Hi @vasil_garbev and thanks for the update. When there is an existing panorama and we want to add a new version, we are forced to pick an image from a local drive. So if I render a panorama from Enscape and upload it from within Revit it’s sent to the online portal, but there’s no way to select this panorama (or any other file on the online portal) as a new version without having it downloaded locally first. This is different from creating a completely new hotspot, because we can ‘Add Files’ to the project and select the uploaded panoramas.
So it sort of seems like there are two workflows, but they can’t work together and each has drawbacks. Workflow one is the panoramas are uploaded by Enscape into the project account, and hotspots can be auto generated, but these panoramas can’t be selected as new versions of existing ones. Workflow two is the panoramas are saved locally and manually uploaded by the user to the project, but then auto hotspots can’t be generated. Also, as discussed, the orientation of these files is different from the orientation of the ‘Enscape uploaded’ panoramas.
Let me know if that doesn’t make any sense or you need further clarifications. Based on your other posts it sounds as if the entire upload system will be getting a bit of an overhaul in the coming months so hopefully it will all become a lot easier.
Hey, it makes perfect sense!
We are working on an improvement for the integration with Enscape as I said, and the “Add version” feature will be available there, so that will help. But we are also discussing internally how to fix that unnecessary rotation of the panorama on Enscape side so that the orientation is consistent between uploaded or locally downloaded files. That should enable you to use the Autogenerate hotspots feature consistently.
I will update you once that happens! I am sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime.
Is there an update on this? We’ve abandoned adding hotspots to images because of how time consuming it is, and instead rely on adding them to the floorplan only. I assume/hope it might be tied in with the larger (and imminent? :p) overhaul of the Enscape upload management interface?
7 months later. Same issues and no response
Seriously, it would be great if you fixed this
I know and I’m sorry it’s taking so long. The overhaul of the Enscape Upload Management had been postponed multiple times since we spoke. The good news is, it is actively in development for a while now and it is set to be released in July. This will fix the problems with adding versions directly and also the panorama rotation issue.
