Someone on a post mentioned Vray5, is that planned anytime soon and will it be incurring an upgrade fee? Seems V4 hasnt been out that long?
It is kind of logical to have something after Next, right?
It’s too early to share details yet.
Vray Again is coming out in a few months.
It’s been two and a half years or so.
Who’s looking forward to VFB2 then? Eh? you excited? I am.
I have long time surrendered to the fact they will hold on VFB2 and the material library until the next major release. ![]()
The preview of VFB2 from two years ago was very promising. I guess it has progressed a lot since then. It will certainly be one of the highlights of the new version.
Yes, please. VFB2.
vray next maya was 26-10-2018. so more like 1.5, max less than 2
I just had a knee jerk reaction to more software costs on top of everything else and feeling im getting a little left behind etc tech wise consequently. (cue violins) . If you did an indie price i wouldnt be so knee jerky ![]()
I was counting the Max cycle (may 2018 ), and if we have to take into account the real life of the release, it’s a bit longer still, as work started sooner, and v.5 won’t be out for a while still.
It seems to me in terms of release stability, and ROI, this is the best value on the market, even if it got down to two years instead of bordering on three.
Then again, i’m not a user anymore, so perhaps the perception of the value proposition isn’t the same for everyone else.
Re: indie: what would qualify as such for you? Single Workstation / limited threads use only with all the features? Basic rendering features only, instead of all the bells and whistles of a standard release?
I’m personally curious to hear what you’d be ready to part from for a (substantially?) lower price.
Believe me I would love to have upgraded to next as Im feeling like im getting left behind a bit, but obviously I know that’s down to me and getting clients and not Chaosgroups’ responsibility, but saying that, its always good to have a pricing structure that at least reflects the difference between an individual and a company. I still pinch myself that Autodesk have done it, I just hope they continue with it.
Indie structure wise, maybe similar to other programs out there, for people with yearly earnings under a certain threshold, a full version, nothing excluded, including maybe a couple of rendernodes, or indie pricing on rendernodes as well as on rendercloud credits.
That sort of thing ![]()
(oh and throw in a tshirt and pen) ![]()
Myself i totally hate indie licences idea versus charging companies shitloads.
takea look at maxtree.org for example. Thats properly f…ing ridiculous.
marvelous, etc.
why woudl a company have to pay more when sometimes they use the particular software less than a freelancer.
totally unfair scheme the whole indie idea.
every serious 3d artist should be able to afford his render of choice if it makes his bread. No need for discounts etc.
just my two cents
There as some inaccuracies and also a confusion between software licenses and content libraries licenses here.
- Content providers very commonly offer different subscription plans based on company size, yes. BUT : You don’t pay more simply because you’re a larger company. You also get a bunch more licenses for your money. And if you do the math (even with your maxtree example) the price per seat paid by a company is lower than what a freelancer pays.
- And the same applies for software. Very few companies actually offer indie licenses. Conversely they very often offer volume discounts… so here again the price per seat for a company is lower than what a freelancer pays.
clearly i must not be a serious 3d artist…nice.
Plus, many indies like myself are not specialized in Vray, it’s one of the tools in the arsenal.
yeah i do the math righ. I am the obly person operating such models or poaying with marvelous. Why do i need to pa more? The math clearly fails here. Paying 4000-6000 dolars for marvelous as a company where i do a few rugs or throws or curtains a year myslef and no one else while freelncer easily makes hundreds to be sold on 3dsky, gumroad etc. This system is not correct because it doesnt take into consideration the amount of seats used but company turnover.
sorry if you got offended its just quite unfair and really weird ppl asking in this post if a future vray will be payed upgrade or wheather it should be sold at a discounted price under indie license. Its very obvious there is a lot of effort goinng into vray. And if vray is one of your tools in your arsenal as you say, you should have next to no problem paying for a release once in 2-3 years where in fact one maybe two jobs should get you covered. On the other hand i could imagine similar type of licensing as Corona has. That should get you sorted.
I really cant see how its unfair comparing individuals to companies, regardless its definitely not weird asking, especially when its asked in a post i created.
Eitherway its entirely upto Chaosgroup and if you dont ask you dont get ![]()
I’d be happy with the corona pricing too…whatever gets the price down for freelancers etc.
Just out of curiosity: why don’t you get a personal license then, and “sell” the stuff to your company? It is not prohibited to sell MD output! The original MD was a very expensive program intended for clothing designers, which even then had very good ROI. The cheaper individual pricing is just intended to help freelancers (whether clothing designers, visualisers or 3D content producers) simply because they expect them not to spend much (or the most, in case of 3D content) time in the software, since they certainly should have more things to do than just that! In my situation (3D Viz; both freelancing and company) the cost/ROI ratio per employee (taking into account all the relevant tools and the inescapable downtime) is FAR better in a company then working alone, simply because you just can not spread the tools over dedicated teams/people. BUT: I am not complaining about pricing…yet. Except for AD stuff;)
