Vray community edition OS.

Hello,

I would like to express my appreciation for the excellent work Chaos Group has been doing with recent features such as this one. Congratulations.

I would also like to inquire about the upcoming V-Ray for Blender on Linux. As I understand, a Linux version is currently in development. I would be very interested to know whether it will be available exclusively for RPM-based distributions, or if you also plan to offer .DEB packages to support mainstream distributions such as the widely-used Kubuntu, Debian, and others.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

V-Ray for Blender on Linux is currently on the finishing phase. We’ve been testing it on various distributions like Ubuntu, CachyOS, Mint and Rocky Linux.
As much as we would like to we won’t be distributing .deb or .rpm packages directly. The installation is via an executable (binary file) that should take care of everything no matter the distro. You’ll just need to make the downloaded file be executable with chmod +x and then run the installer with sh ./vray_installer_name (for example) and it will start the install process.
There is a good chance that some additional packages might need to be installed based on the distro since most of them come with various install types (Minimal, Comlete, etc) and missing files could be an issue in that case.

Hope this gives you the needed information until the launch.

Amazing Shaio! Amazing!

Amazing news, I look forward to this. I’ve been using V-ray professionally for 10 years now and since I have switched to blender 2 years ago now, I welcome the chance to use it again. SInce I’ve got 2 open projects that I would like to render in v-ray, is there a realistic timeframe for when the linux version will be released please?

Thanks

I think that, the way things are going, the next revision will be released as soon as it arrives.
