i have a recurring issue with distributed rendering still image sequences with vray framebuffer. the renderjob just stops after the first or second or third image without any comment. the last rendered image is fine but it stops before the new frame has been started. i suspect it to be a network access issue of the exr file. this never happens when using the max framebuffer.
second: an option for saving scanline zip1 exrs from vray fb would be greatly appreciated.

Newer versions of V-Ray will automatically try to produce scanline zip EXR files at the end of the rendering.

regarding the network problem, would it be better to write to vrimg and convert with the command line tool to exr later?

This has proven to be more reliable in general. Writing the files locally and then copying them over the network may also help, if you decide to stay with .exr files.
