Vray for Sketchup 3.0 : How to set Soft shadow for IES Light

I just started to use Vray for Sketchup 3.0 from older version. Hence, I am still trying to get use to the new UI. However, in the older version we can select soft shadow for IES light and it is no where to be found in the new version. My shadow from IES light turns out rigid. Any advise?

Hi jeslynelow,

In V-Ray 3 the shadows are ‘soft’ by default.
We decided to hide the parameter in the UI because it’s a good idea to always have the effect enabled.

Konstantin

Hello! Sorry for my english. You said that IES shadows are soft by default, but it isn’t so in practice! in previous versions (2.), i can control the radius of shadows by edit the corresponding parameter directly in IES file (dimensions of light source). But it is not working in version 3.4! Is there a way to control shadows radius, now? I talk about the shadows that makes by objects, when using IES light.

Softer shadows can be achieved by changing the IES light Shape and then adjusting the Diameter parameter. Make sure you have the latest V-Ray version (3.40.04) to be able to access these options:

thank you very much!

It does not work! Please help!

I just double-check this using a couple of IES lights and found no issue.
Could you please confirm whether the result you illustrated occurs only with a specific IES file? The Diameter value you’ve used is abnormally big.
If you’d like to send a scene for investigation, please use Extensions > V-Ray > Export > Pack Project and send it over to support@chaosgroup.com together with a link to this forum thread.

Kind regards,
Peter
