turning this option off only gives you ilussion. vray fur strands are always flat. but i can see there is new option - “sides” in geometric detail section (im still on 2.4)

You could easily create this rug with Forest Pro using real cylinders. You can even use a map to control the rotation/scaling giving lots of options to get it looking right Hope this helps

if you really need cylinders try 3ds max hair and fur. a lot more styling tools although not as easy to work with. there is an option to export it as mesh. could be unmanageable geometry but you could proxy smaller parts.

[image] VrayDirt as a Bump map I didn’t even know max hair and fur actually worked with vray. Might look at that too. Thanks. Native 3DSMax Hair and Fur modifier works very well with Vray especially if VrayHairMtl is applied to it.
