VRay GPU EnvironmentFog ignores Gradient Ramp interpolation steps

See attached renders. Using a gradient ramp to color an EnvFog using a sphere gizmo. Smooth render is rendered with CPU, the one with sharp steps is GPU (CUDA/RTX produce same results).
Gradient ramp works fine as color source for VRayLightMtl in GPU, so the problem seems to be with EnvFog handling of the texture.

VRay 7.20.08. RTX 5080. Windows 11.

It’s reproducible. I’ll log the issue. Try baking the map and placing it in the slot instead as a workarond.

EDIT: Logged as (VGPU-7113).

Thanks!

Using a VRayBitmap in the EnvFog color slot crashes max…

So it seems… Logged this one (VGPU-7115) as well.

Thanks!

Any chance of a near future nightly build with a fix for these?

Yeah, I’ll talk to the product owner to prioritze them asap.

Much appreciated!

Thanks a lot for the report!

I will update the thread when there is a fix

Best,
Muhammed

@Muhammed_Hamed Thanks!

The crash is fixed in the latest experimental build. Try it out.

Thanks! Will try it once I can find some time. What about getting the gradient ramp to work without stair-stepping (VGPU-7113)?

That one is not yet fixed. The devs will assess it soon; the crash had a priority.

Any news on the (smooth) gradient ramp for GPU?

No movement yet, I’m afraid. I’ll add a bump on your behalf.
