VRay HDRI Clamping

How can I change the Clamping parameter for HDRIs when using the VRay HDRI material.

In max I would select bitmap - select a hdri and choose Setup but, I don’t get this with the VRay HDRI.

Thanks

stuff it in a color correct and add clampimg. VRayHDRI doesnt have a clamping option built in.

I use Color Correction not Color Correct and Color Correction doesn’t have the clamping functionality.

Could open it in photoshop, save as a jpg…

or stuff it into an output map and turn on clamping. tho that kinda defeats a part of the idea :stuck_out_tongue:

You can also pipe through a VRayCompTex texture in “Min” mode where the other texture is a VRayColor texture with the desired clamp level.

I’m definitely doing something wrong.

Could you have a look at the following parametres ?

VRayCompTex:

Source A = VRayColor with red, green, blue and rgb multiplier all at 100,000

Source B = VRayHDRI map

This is copied to the two Environment slots, the Environment and the Texture for the Dome light.

I should be able to get sharp shadows but cannot - the HDRIs are very hi res with a maximum clamping of approx 26,000.

Do you get the sharp shadows with the HDRI map only?

Here are my tests: first is without clamping, second is clamped at 1000000, third is clamped at 10000, fourth is clamped at 100, and the last one is clamped at 1.

Vlado

Here are the settings for the VRayCompTex and the VRayColor textures.

Thanks for that Vlado.

I figured it out that when ‘Store with irradiance map’ under the Dome Light settings is unticked the render times go up double. It does give sharp shadows though but, we can’t afford the extra render time.
