About every 2 - 3 days, I need to restart the VRay license service because it stops responding to license requests. When this happens, the web interface doesn’t respond, so I manually restart the service which brings it back up and running.
We are using the license service bundled with 1.5 sp1, and the license server is running on a Win2k Server.
I was having similar issues here, it turned out to be a memory problem, and updating the Wibu Key drivers to the latest available version fixed it. theres a thread on it here somewhere, but i’ve sorta given up on finding things here again lol
when at home i used to connect the dongle to the usb ports on the keyboard, which lead to some instability…i just stop using those keyboard ports for the dongle and start using the workstation ports. Haven t had a single problem ever since.
and stopped trusting those usefull ports.
Well it’s been a relatively recent thing (last month or two) so I don’t think a USB port is going bad (don’t have multiple ports to work with anyways) but I certainly can check for wibu updates.
Basically, when i was using the vrlserver.exe from the max9 version with the 2008 max/vraysp2 i was getting crashes from the license server about 2-3times a day. switching to using the vrlserv that corresponds with the max i’m actually using at the time seems to be solid.
You can try to update the WIBU key drivers, and also to use the license server from sp2 instead and see if it makes things any better. If not, please email me to vlado@chaosgroup.com and we’ll try to figure out what is causing it.
I’m going to update this on my end, I’m pretty sure it was the Dongle, I swapped out my dongle for another one from the spares and I haven’t had a problem since.
