Vray light-without shadows

It would be very nice to have the option to not use shadows with the vray light. When rendering very large spaces, I sometimes use 4 or 5 vray lights and also 4 or 5 photometric area ligts without shadows to speed up
rendering times. I would like to be able to use all vray lights. I know that
I could use a standard light, but alot of times I need the rectangle shape
emitting lights.

yessss… I agree…

And I want to use Vray Light Dome without shadows… use full to simulate outdoor lighting without GI… Very easy to do with Max build in dome… But not compatible with vray…

Best regards.

I’m agree,

I prey for this option (with exclude in reflection too)

how could you tell a true area light to not cast a shadow? Im going to have to look into this, cause your right, the photometric areas have that option. It just seems silly somehow.

It is a strange concept, but it does speed up rendering quite a bit. I know
that it not physically correct, but the client doesnt know that. Pretty much
all we do here is animation, so rendertimes are our number one concern.

Mike

I don’t think that vray is “physically correct”…

and some time you need to do some “Physically Incorrect” stuff for a faster workflow…

Regards…

Very nice renders mmikee

True, I was only using “physically correct” in the loosest terms. Light that
is not casting any shadows is definately more physically incorrect that the
many other features of vray.

Hello Vlado…

Any chance to see a vray light without shadow… (On/Off switch…)

Or as we say in our office : “J’ai qu’à aller me faire une soupe”.

in english : “I will cook myself a soup.”

Best regards…

I know one way to make the vray light not cast shadows…make the multiplier 0

lol

ehehehe funny

you can do it.

make a vray light and go to “exclude” option, there exclude all objects in the scene and choose shadow casting, voilà.
I use this a lot.

Ok it works… you win…

You’re Switzerlandman ! The switerland super-heroe… 8)

PS : I’m working in Geneva

you can do the same thing I think without selecting anything by just switching to include. Leave the list blank and switch on shadow casting as the what to include and there you go.

the Maya vray light has a check box to cast shadows or not.

Maybe one day the max version will have the option

gasp, VRay maya has something max doesn’t…my life is ruined.

So a “Cast shadows” option has been added to VRayLight’s now.

Vlado

Yeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaa !!!
