Vray Memory Leak?

Just got back from my holidays to start working on a previous project, and after 18 frames of rendering, 3ds Max stops rendering when using V-Ray GPU. CPU rendering works fine on the same scene, so it seems GPU-specific.

I’ve had similar memory leak related issues in the past. Setup: 3ds Max 2027, RTX 4090 (24GB), [Windows 11 and NVIDIA 610.88]. Tried with V-Ray versions 7.40.04 and 7.40.05.33726 — same result on both.

Is there someone who can take a look? I’ll attach a screengrab of the memory usage climbing over frames. Happy to send my scene file if needed.

Hi,

Could you please send us the scene file so we can check?

Use File > Archive in 3ds Max.

Thank you!

The file has been sent. Thanks!

Please let me know if you’ve identified the issue. I’d like to wrap up an animation today.

Hi,

I was able to reproduce the issue on a 4090 with the latest official V-Ray 7.40.04.
It doesn’t appear to be a memory leak, but it crashes after about 18–20 frames.

I also tested with a newer experimental build, and the issue does not occur there.
It works as expected on my end.
Could you please download the latest experimental build from the link I will send you and test it on your side.

You can use this build to render the job.
However, please note that it is an experimental build, so we recommend switching back to the official build once we have an official release.

Let us know how it goes.

Thank you Martin!

But do you know what caused this issue?

Thank you for the update.
I can’t say exactly what caused it.
There are fixes included in the experimental builds, and some of those fix this.
Please let us know if you experience any issues again.
