I have two aovs in my renders:
vrayRE_Render_ID
vrayRE_Coverage
The BTY and both aovs render ok in the vfb
When I run a batch render in Maya, the BTY and coverage render are good, but the Render ID renders black instead of multi coloured.
All rendering is on my local machine.
Thanks for trying to help - it says ‘as a new user you are not able to upload files’
Is there another way to upload? (I’m a paying license user)
(ORIGINAL MESSAGE - I was planning to send files…)
Here’s a simplified scene w spheres (as I’m not cleared to send the assets IP).
I tested it and the same behaviour as before:
-In vfb, Render ID renders multi colour and coverage renders with no outlines
-In batch render, Render ID renders black and coverage renders correctly with outlines
Please note, scene also has .AxF shaders but this doesn’t seem to be the cause as VRayMtl has same behaviour in renders. Thanks for looking at this.
The problem seems to be that batch rendering renders the first Layer rather than the visible one. I do not get empty renderID/Coverage, but missing ones (as set in the first layer). Try disabling the “renderable in batch” icon of the “BTY” layer and see if that fixes it on your end.
Not sure why Coverage has missing outlines in the VFB, will continue troubleshooting.
EDIT: Ah, silly me. I was rendering bucket 1/1, where there isn’t any antialiasing. Works fine with more samples.
I tried your suggestion of disabling ‘render in batch’ and a few other things.
(Incidentally, today, the ‘coverage’ pass began working in the vfb (it was blank before), but I hadn’t knowingly changed any settings.)
I had a small breakthrough, if I render the exr files seperately rather than multi-layer, they are rendered correctly, but this will slow down my production speed in a workflow dependant on efficiently rendering and compositing multiple assets, so ideally I would like to still fix the multi-layer exr behaviour.
Please let me know if you have any other suggestions of things I can try.
