we are evaluating moving from mental ray to vray. one of the key elements of MR we use is the mia_roundcorners on CAD geometry to give nice highlights on geometry that would be impossible to get without extensive remodeling.
upon testing the Vray round edges it appears to produce a lot of artifacts & there doesnt seem to be any settings to change compared to the MR ones.
Is there any way to improve this as , as it is currently we cant use it.
We are looking to improve this (if you can get us a sample scene it will be very helpful), but I’m afraid we cannot implement it in the same way as the mia material due to potential patent issues.
i could just send a bit of the geometry shown in the screenshot. it demonstrates the problem ok? Do you think you will be able to have a usable solution in the near future?
I also had similar issues and once again I think it was something to do with the view dependant feature.
I turned it off, and lowered the ‘edge length’.
There was not any displacement involved here; I believe we improved this quite a bit for the latest builds though and the round corners should work a lot better in this case.
