VRayBlendMtl: Basic Question About its Blend Mode

Hi all,
hope you are well.
Just have a question about the V-Ray Blend Material if thats okay?

When you have materials plugged into the Blend Material, what is the default method of blending used?

Lets say we have a VRayBlendMtl with Material A plugged into the base and Material B plugged into Layer 1 and nothing in the Blend amount slot

Is the blending mode setting the base and Layer 1 to 50% opacity?

How does VRayBlendMtl force energy conservation of secular layers?

Thanks

Steve ~

There’s always something in the Blend amount slot - if there isn’t a texture then V-Ray users the color.

When the “additive mode” option is OFF, the material blends the result starting from the base material and applying the coat layers on top of it. Coat layers with bigger “amount” values dim those before them, so energy preservation is always ensured.

When “additive mode” is ON, energy preservation is not guaranteed. We don’t recommend using this mode.

Best regards,
Vlado

Additive (shellac) mode

Hi Vlado, "When “additive mode” is OFF, energy preservation is not guaranteed. We don’t recommend using this mode.
", additive mode ON or OFF which you mean here?

I don’t recommend to have the additive mode enabled. I’ve updated my original post too.

Best regards,
Vlado
