Hello,
Usually when we work on our shot, we adjust the exposure in Vantage directly.
We tend to go with EXR files + mp4 preview, but we don’t save any color corrections not to bake any OCIO settings, we also don’t use tonemapping here as we use ACES workflow later on. The ONLY thing we adjust is Exposure (as above) and this is saved in the EXR - which is fine, because our understanding is that it doesn’t clip the tonal range of EXR files. (Exposure adjustment is still saved despite “Bake CC in EXR” off, but i guess it’s okay? I mean it works for us)
However, recently we had to start doing some white balance adjustments, and we decided to do it in VRay Physical Camera (as we don’t save Vantage CC in exr files). That requires us to turn on Exposure Control in VRay Camera.
After exporting the vrscene file, the exposure looks correct in viewport and in preview mp4, but it doesn’t get baked into EXRs, which is weird and feels inconsistent. The only way to get the VRay Physical Exposure baked is to turn on Exposure Corrections and just keep it there, without any value changes. Only then EXR files get the exposure adjustment from VRayPhysical Camera. That feels quite unintuitive.
We use Max 2026
VRay 73004 DR2
Vantage 3.2.1
